The project is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP) under the Core Technology Development Program for Information Security. Representatives from participating and end-user organizations, including a classification society, shipyards, marine equipment suppliers, and shipping companies, attended the event.
National R&D Demonstration Conducted in a Real-World Lab Environment
The demonstration validated the project's achievements for compliance with the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Unified Requirements UR E26 and UR E27 in a physical equipment environment. COONTEC launched real-world attacks - including malware infiltration, GPS jamming and spoofing, unauthorized remote access, and DDoS attacks - against two virtual vessels configured to replicate actual ship networks. The company demonstrated the entire process on site, from threat detection and response to the collection of inspection evidence.
The cyber resilience assessment model developed through the project calculates a vessel's resilience level as a Cyber Resilience Index (CRI) and evaluates it using a maturity model. The platform can simulate the full certification process, from application and certificate issuance to post-certification management, allowing shipowners and shipyards to identify in advance the requirements needed to achieve their target rating. It also supports the UR E27 certification process for computer-based systems (CBS) installed onboard vessels through checklists and evidence management.

From Research Outcomes to Commercial Platforms
The project's outcomes are being commercialized through TeraGRID Maritime (TGM), an integrated maritime cyber resilience platform; KR-CRP (Cyber Resilience Platform), co-developed with Korean Register; and KR-Tester, an onboard security testing tool. Security events detected in real time onboard a vessel are automatically mapped to the implementation status of international regulatory requirements and linked to the documentation and evidence required for classification inspections. COONTEC is preparing for the official launch by conducting proof-of-concept (PoC) projects with major Korean shipping companies this year.
