BHN champions giving through 3% charitable contributions on select products and comprehensive philanthropic initiatives supporting communities worldwide
Global branded payments leader Blackhawk Network (BHN) today announced a significant philanthropic milestone, having donated $2.7 million to 73 charities worldwide in 2024. This achievement reflects the company's continued dedication to supporting charitable causes and driving meaningful connections throughout the world. Since its inception, BHN has been committed to empowering communities and strengthening partnerships with organizations making a difference globally.
“At BHN, philanthropy and giving are central to who we are,” said Talbott Roche, CEO and president of BHN. “We’re passionate about supporting organizations that drive positive change and empowering individuals and businesses to make an impact. Through our partnerships and philanthropic initiatives, we aim to create opportunities for generosity that resonate far beyond a single moment.”
In 2020, BHN doubled down on its dedication to charitable giving with the introduction of its exclusive Giving Good™ Gift Cards. Featuring several top restaurants, retailers and entertainment brands, this special gift card allows the recipient to choose where they want to redeem their gift. When shoppers purchase a Giving Good gift card, BHN makes a donation equal to 3% of the card’s value to one of six of BHN’s charity partners of the gift card recipient’s choosing. These include some of America’s top charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Feeding America, Habitat for Humanity, Make-A-Wish, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Wounded Warrior Project. The value of each Giving Good card is customizable, ranging from $25 to $500, with no fees.
Since the creation of its Giving Good gift cards, BHN has proudly been able to play a pivotal role in supporting these charities through its donations. In 2024, BHN achieved $1 million in donations each for Habitat for Humanity and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since the launch of the Giving Good cards.
Research shows that gift givers have a strong interest in purchasing gift cards that give back to charity. In a 2024 study, BHN’s research found that almost 60% of respondents would be interested in purchasing a gift card benefitting charity, with 65% of younger respondents (Gen Z and millennials) expressing interest.
“Charitable giving continues to be a powerful way for individuals and businesses to make a meaningful impact,” said Kathy Selders, Executive Director at Charity On Top. “With 67% of all giving coming from individuals, we’re thrilled to see gifting options that inspire generosity during the holiday season. Whether it’s employees choosing gifts that reflect their values or businesses encouraging charitable donations, these products make it easier than ever to support important causes and spread the spirit of giving.”
Aligned with the notion of making charitable giving more accessible, Tango, a division of BHN, furthers this goal through its self-serve portal by offering customers easy access to over 1,000 digital gift cards and charitable options. Many programs allow recipients to direct part—or even all—of their rewards or payments to non-profit partners like the American Red Cross, Charity On Top and Habitat for Humanity. To date, Tango has facilitated over $12 million in payments to charities through its platform.
Beyond its product offerings, BHN actively promotes a culture of giving through initiatives offered to its global workforce. For example, BHN offers its full-time employees 16 hours of paid volunteer time annually, encouraging them to give back to their communities and further underscoring BHN’s commitment to creating meaningful impact both locally and globally. BHN also offers an internal employee recognition program where its team members can earn and award points to colleagues for a job well done. Among a number of redemption options, BHN employees have the option to donate their points in the form of monetary contributions to a number of charitable organizations. This year alone, employees have contributed thousands of dollars to charities such as Convoy of Hope, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Samaritan’s Purse, and even to efforts supporting victims of the major hurricanes impacting the Southeastern US.
