Democracy at Work & Architectural Workers United Presents a conversation between Professor Richard Wolff & C.G. Beck

NEW YORK - Nov. 25, 2025 - PRLog -- For as long as Professor Richard Wolff has been teaching and writing, capitalism has continued to generate instability, inequality, and injustice. While certain professionals have taken up the cause of challenging these conditions, such as teachers, attorneys, doctors and nurses, many in "creative" disciplines such as tech, and the music industry have neglected to do so. But that might be changing in such industries to which the exploitative nature of capitalism presents itself most nakedly.

Last month, Professor Wolff sat down with C. G. Beck to discuss his recently released book The Labor of Architecture: Creativity, Design, and the Building of a New Class Consciousness. The two reflected on the new but growing labor movement within the architecture industry following the unionization of the first-private sector architecture office in the United States. They also questioned the role of technology in current work arrangements, and how unions could challenge encroaching Artificial Intelligence, among other issues.

With the election of Zohran Mamdani, the conversation has even more urgency, with an opportunity for unions in architecture and other industries to contribute to a potential boom in building in New York City. Will architects, and the city, meet the moment?

They'll continue the conversation at the People's Forum on Thursday, December 4th at 6pm, register here.
