The collaboration will accelerate the clean energy journey for the two companies and their customers as Reliant and GM Energy work cross-industry to leverage their strengths and provide free nighttime charging for Chevrolet EV drivers.

NRG Energy, one of the nation’s leading electricity and natural gas suppliers, today celebrated surpassing $4 million in contributions to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) from its charitable program, Choose to Give. The milestone was celebrated at the hospital with a check presentation and a tour of the Cardiac Center at CHOP.

The Dallas Cowboys knocked it out of the park at the 11th annual Reliant Home Run Derby benefiting The Salvation Army of North Texas. Thousands of fans came out to Riders Field in Frisco to cheer on the Cowboys as they traded footballs for baseballs during this fun and friendly competition for a good cause. The charity event resulted in Reliant donating $145,400 to 23 North Texas nonprofits, bringing the total community impact to $984,000 since the event began in 2013.

A new report conducted by Intelometry shows that customers enrolled in an energy plan with a competitive electric supplier could have saved hundreds of millions of dollars since 2022 rather than choosing basic utility service. In addition, competitive supplier data collected for 2024 shows that from January to March, if all residential customers selected the lowest cost retail supplier, customers would have saved more than $238 million during that period compared to basic utility service.

The Corpus Christi Hooks and Reliant have announced the continuation of the Reliant All-Star Educators Program, officially beginning the search for 10 new outstanding local public-school teachers to award each a $1,600 grant for classroom supplies.

In celebration of electricity choice coming to the Hub City, Reliant is offering Lubbock residents a chance to win a year of free electricity, up to $5,000, through the Lubbock Free Year of Electricity Sweepstakes. Four winners will be selected at random for the prizes.

As the peak of hurricane season approaches, Reliant and its parent company NRG are joining Attack Poverty and the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management to distribute emergency supplies and materials for more than 2,500 Fort Bend County families. Five emergency preparedness distribution events will be held this summer with the first serving 500 families and taking place on Saturday, July 30. Fort Bend County residents can visit attackpoverty.org/preparedness for event updates, where time and location information for the distributions will be posted 24-48 hours in advance.

Reliant and the YMCA of Greater Houston are teaming up to expand essential water safety education to 2,000 underserved Houstonians. The Rio Grande Valley FC (RGV FC) unveiled today the primary home kit, also known as the players’ jerseys, at an exclusive event to kick off the 2022 United Soccer League (USL) Championship season. Today, Reliant, an NRG company, announced a $500,000 commitment to the City of Houston’s “Complete Communities” initiative to support the Bethune Empowerment Center (BEC), a centralized workforce and economic development hub in the Acres Homes community. Reliant announced today the award recipients of the Reliant Innovation Fund to two critical care physician-scientists. The Houston Methodist Center for Critical Care in collaboration with the Texas A&M College of Medicine and Houston Methodist EnMed Program joined together with Reliant to recognize the awardees, including Dr. Hina Faisal, Dr. Asma Zainab and the EnMed students who will support their work. The Engineering Medicine (EnMed) program is a unique collaborative endeavor between Houston Methodist and Texas A&M University that allows students to graduate with Medical Doctorates and Master of Engineering degrees in four years.
